Once again, SWISS WATER® Decaffeinated Coffees have been reviewed in blind tastings by Coffee Review and the grades were great! Both our SWISS WATER® House Blend and our Organic Espresso Blend Fair Trade achieved a solid overall rating of 87 in August 2006. Kenneth Davids, one of the most respected and prolific writers on the subject of coffee, established the Coffee Review in 1997. It is a trusted source of coffee rankings, conducting blind, expert cuppings of coffees and reporting it’s findings in the form of 100-point reviews, much like those that exist in the wine industry. (The highest ranking ever given by the Coffee Review to a decaffeinated coffee was 92 points, given to SWISS WATER® Process Organic Decaf Espresso, from Supreme Bean Coffee Roasters of Los Angeles in March 2005.)

In the assessment by Coffee Review, our House Blend was described as “Very sweet-toned, gently roasty aroma, with peach-toned cedar and semi-sweet chocolate notes. Simplifies in the cup, but remains delicately sweet and balanced with continuing dry chocolate complication. Gently rich finish with the barest hint of astringency as the cup cools.” The review goes on to note that “The slow, tactfully conducted dark roast is the dominating feature of this blend as tested here.”

Our Organic/Fair-Trade Espresso Blend was also well received in the blind assessment with “Complex aroma: toast, banana-toned fruit, semi-sweet chocolate, perhaps a hint of tomato. In the small cup quite light-bodied though smooth in mouthfeel; very sweet, with a richly fruity character that continues to suggest banana and a prune-toned, semi-sweet chocolate, all of which carries elegantly into a rich finish.”

All said and done, a good report card for SWISS WATER® Process!
